Real Sinn Féin is a fringe political party which formed from a split within Republican Sinn Féin in August 2010.[1] It firstly adopted the name Limerick Independent Republican Organisation, then in late 2010 changed it to Real Sinn Féin.[2] By early 2011, the group was using the title Republican Sinn Féin as well as Sinn Féin Poblachtach.[3]
In February 2010, the party held an ard fheis and elected the following people as its leadership.[3][4][5]
The following were elected to the party's ard chomhairle: Brendan Casey, Donegal; Des Long, Limerick; Barry Toman, Lurgan; Phil Heneghan, Cork; Robbie Conroy, Dublin; and Joe Daly, West Limerick.
On 9 June 2011, Liam Kenny, 53, one of the party's general secretaries, was shot dead in his home in Clondalkin, west Dublin in an attack suspected by Gardaí to have been carried out by drug dealers whose activities Mr Kenny had been campaigning against.[6][7][8] A limited photographic record of members of this group can be found here. It should be noted that the written content of this website is a spoof on Real Sinn Fein.
